Permanent Jewelry FAQ

Permanent jewelry is fine chain attached with a jump ring that is welded shut. This creates the look on continuous chain, with no bulky clasp that is tricky to open and close.

Since you don't take them off to shower / swim / sleep / sweat, we use high quality *waterproof* gold-filled & sterling silver chain that does not tarnish or lose its color.

No, permanent jewelry is not actually permanent! You can remove it on your own for medical procedures or if you decide you no longer want the jewelry, by simply cutting the jump ring with scissors or small pliers. 

Although these are extremely sturdy and strong, they are not indestructible. If it gets snagged or pulled hard enough, the chain and/or jumpring will break as a safety mechanism.

Does it hurt?
Nope, you will not feel anything when the welding occurs. The weld is done at a low wattage safe to be done directly on skin. We do place a piece of leather between your skin and the jewelry to prevent jewelry soot from getting on your skin.

The light from the weld can be damaging to your eyes if observed too closely, so we will ask you to look away or watch through your camera screen to be safe.

Airport security
You can definitely keep it on to go through security, as it will not set off metal detectors.

After you book your appointment and pay the $10 booking deposit, this is how your appointment will work:

1. Arrive at our new little Cinder & Sage home studio in the heart of Inglewood (Calgary).
2. Be greeted by sweet Frankie May, our shop dog :).
3. Check out the chains, lay them across your wrist to see what you like best and pick your favourite!
4. Get sized.
5. Look away as we 'zap' the jump ring together using our micro welder.
6. Pay your remaining balance (which will be the cost minus the $10 appointment deposit).
7. Admire your new forever bracelet that you never have to worry about taking on and off! 

Appointments usually take about 15-20minutes per person.

If your chain happens to break, keep the chain and contact us to have us re-weld it back on, free of charge within the first 60 days. (After 60 days, we will charge a $10 service/booking fee.)

We cannot replace or refund lost jewelry.  You must have the chain in your possession to be eligible for a repair.

We want you to be happy with your new adornment, so please contact us if it has fallen off within the first 10 days and we can sort out a replacement! (*GF and SS only).

Yes, it is real gold! :)

Gold filled jewelry is made from mechanically bonding a thick layer of real gold with heat and pressure to a base metal. In North America, gold filled jewelry must contain 1/20th gold by weight – approximately 100x the amount of gold in a gold plated making it super durable, long lasting, waterproof and hypoallergenic. 

All gold (including solid gold) contains a base metal (or else it would be too soft). Gold-filled chain basically has a thicker base metal than solid gold does.

Sure! We just have to custom order in the gold for you. Reach out if you'd like 10k solid gold and we can send you a photo of chain options and order that in. We require a 50% deposit on solid gold chain before we order it in.

The price of gold fluctuates, so please contact us for a price and timeline of when we would have it in. We usually need approx 2 weeks to get it in.

Be sure to read about what gold-filled really is first though, as it is still real gold, just a great, affordable option.

We don't currently do necklaces, but you can most definitely get an anklet!

Keep in mind, chain naturally stretches a little bit, and anklets tend to stretch faster due to more rubbing / socks, etc.

Photos never seem to do the chain justice though so it's always nice to choose in person after seeing it across your wrist.

Yes, you bet! We offer a $10 discount on any additional bracelet / anklet per person at the time of the appointment.

Since you will be showering / bathing with your new jewelry, it tends to stay nice and clean.

You can always use one of our jewelry cleaning cloths to clean it! These are especially great to shine up sterling silver chain.

You can also clean it with some soap and water scrub gently with a toothbrush if needed.

You can wear your jewelry while showering or swimming. Prolonged exposure to chlorine can slowly break down precious metals and may cause your chain to weaken over time. 

Avoid pulling or snagging your chain to prevent breakage and stretching. 

Permanent jewelry is available to ages 10 years and older.

Please keep in mind, if you are playing lots of sports and activities, your bracelet may not last as long.

are in a home studio instead, we do not accept walk-ins, but feel to reach out with a DM on Instagram if you want to inquire about a last minute appointment!
